Tracheal Stenosis CT Findings

  • Trachea is narrowed
  • Usually found post-intubation or post-trauma
  • Usually occurs at level of inflated cuff, tracheostomy opening, or stoma
  • Identifiable complete cartilaginous rings
  • May have calcium deposits (rare)

Etiology:

  • Acquired or congenital

Epidemiology:

  • Affects patients of all age groups

Presentation:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Cough
  • Wheezing
  • Respiratory infection
  • Asthma
  • Congestion
  • Sleep apnea

Prognosis:

  • Usually treated with surgery
