Other Information About Pulmonary Edema
Etiology:
- Trauma
- Sepsis
- Pneumonia
- Pulmonary embolism
- Certain drug use
- Cardiac issues, including coronary artery disease, hypertension, myocarditis, cardiomyopathy, etc.
Epidemiology:
- Pulmonary edema is more common in patients with cardiac issues, diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea, etc.
Presentation:
- Dyspnea
- Feeling of suffocating or drowning
- Cough with mucus and/or blood
- Wheezing
- Palpitations
- Chest pain
- Symptoms may get worse in recumbent position
Prognosis:
- Pulmonary edema is a medical emergency and must be treated promptly
