  • Low density
  • Rim enhancement
  • May have air
  • Can simulate cyst, cystic tumor, infarct or hemorrhage

Etiology:

  • Hematogeneous spread
  • Infection
  • Infarction
  • Contamination
  • Trauma
  • Renal disease

Epidemiology:

  • Rare
  • Bimodal: typically presents in the 3rd and 6th decades

Presentation:

  • Fever
  • Abdominal pain
  • Nausea and/or vomiting
  • Palpable mass

Prognosis:

  • Requires treatment
  • Mortality has been reported around 47%
