  • Dilation of proximal airways (traction bronchiectasis)
  • Honeycombing
  • Ground-glass opacity

Other Information About Pulmonary Fibrosis

Etiology:

  • Long-term exposure to toxins
  • Radiation therapy
  • Chemotherapy
  • Smoking
  • Medicines such as antibiotics
  • Associated with conditions such as pneumonia, sarcoidosis, lupus, etc.
  • Can be idiopathic

Epidemiology:

  • Typically presents after age 50
  • More common in males

Presentation:

  • Shortness of breath
  • Cough
  • Weight loss
  • Fatigue
  • Clubbing of the fingers and/or toes

Prognosis:

  • Symptoms of pulmonary fibrosis can be managed
  • Survival is about 2-3 years after diagnosis
