Gastric Adenocarcinoma CT Findings

  • Focal thickening
  • Polypoid lesion
  • Diffuse wall thickening with or without lobulations
  • Bulky tumor with or without ulceration
  • Diffuse infiltration

Other Information About Gastric Adenocarcinoma

Etiology:

  • Unknown
  • Linked to diets high in smoked, pickled, and salted foods
  • Tobacco use increases risk

Epidemiology:

  • More common in males
  • Typically presents in the 7th decade of life
  • Much younger patients have been diagnosed with gastric adenocarcinoma

Presentation:

  • Can be asymptomatic
  • Stomach pain
  • Anorexia
  • Trouble swallowing
  • Weight loss
  • Nausea and/or vomiting
  • Black stool
  • Heartburn
  • Indigestion

Prognosis:

  • The 5-year relative survival rate for all stomach cancers is:
    • Localized: 75%
    • Regional: 36%
    • Distant: 7%
    • All SEER staged combined: 36%
