Gastric Adenocarcinoma CT Findings
- Focal thickening
- Polypoid lesion
- Diffuse wall thickening with or without lobulations
- Bulky tumor with or without ulceration
- Diffuse infiltration
Other Information About Gastric Adenocarcinoma
Etiology:
- Unknown
- Linked to diets high in smoked, pickled, and salted foods
- Tobacco use increases risk
Epidemiology:
- More common in males
- Typically presents in the 7th decade of life
- Much younger patients have been diagnosed with gastric adenocarcinoma
Presentation:
- Can be asymptomatic
- Stomach pain
- Anorexia
- Trouble swallowing
- Weight loss
- Nausea and/or vomiting
- Black stool
- Heartburn
- Indigestion
Prognosis:
- The 5-year relative survival rate for all stomach cancers is:
- Localized: 75%
- Regional: 36%
- Distant: 7%
- All SEER staged combined: 36%
