Invasive Aspergillosis CT Findings

  • Pulmonary nodule with “halo sign”
  • Well-circumscribed lesions
  • Ground-glass gray attenuation
  • Wedge-shaped pleural consolidation
  • Air crescent sign
  • Centrilobular nodules
  • Nodular areas of increased attenuation (“tree-in-bud”)

Other Information About Invasive Aspergillosis

Etiology:

  • Aspergillosis is caused by a mold
  • Invasive aspergillosis is when the infection spreads to the blood system other organs

Epidemiology:

  • Patients with a weakened immune system are most susceptible to invasive aspergillosis
  • Patients without pre-existing medical conditions are unlikely to get invasive aspergillosis

Presentation:

  • Cough
  • Hemoptysis
  • Chest pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Fever

Prognosis:

  • Mortality rate ranges around 35-70%
