Renal Abscess CT Findings
- Focal low density mass
- Often cystic with thickened irregular walls
- Thickening of Gerota’s fascia
- Perinephric extension
- May be single or multiple
- Usually unilateral in location
Other Information About Renal Abscess
Etiology:
- Kidney stones
- Renal disease
- Urinary obstruction or infection
Epidemiology:
- Can affect any age
- More common in females
Presentation:
- Fever
- Chills
- Hematuria
- Dysuria
- Abdominal and/or back pain
- Weight loss
- Night sweats
Prognosis:
- Can resolve with treatment which may range from antibiotics to drainage to surgery
