Ameloblastoma CT Findings

  • Most commonly occurs in posterior mandible
  • Presents as an expansile, radiolucent, multilocular mass
  • Internal Septations form “honeycomb” appearance

Etiology:

  • Unknown

Epidemiology:

  • Very rare
  • Most common in 4th-7th decades of life
  • More common in Africa and Asia

Presentation:

  • Slow-growing swelling around jaw
  • Dental malocclusion
  • Loose teeth
  • Palpable mass

Prognosis:

  • Ameloblastomas are benign but can cause severe facial disfigurement
  • Maxillofacial surgery is needed to remove the tumor
  • Recurrence is not uncommon
