Pulmonary Hemorrhage CT Findings

  • Bilateral patchy perihilar infiltrates
  • Diffuse bilateral alveolar opacification
  • Ground glass centrilobular nodules
  • Filling defect in major airways (clot) can occur
  • Pulmonary hemorrhage may be of higher CT attenuation than a routine infiltrate

Etiology:

  • Lung disease such as tuberculosis, bronchiectasis, lung cancer, etc.

Epidemiology:

  • More common in smokers

Presentation:

  • Blood in cough or vomit

Prognosis:

  • Mild and moderate pulmonary hemorrhage has a better prognosis
  • Severe hemorrhage has a higher mortality rate
