Wilms Tumor CT Findings

  • Bulky, solid intrarenal mass
  • Spherical
  • Hypodense and heterogeneous
  • Pseudocapsule
  • Well-defined rim
  • Distortion of the renal parenchyma and collecting system
  • Commonly displaces adjacent structures

Etiology:

  • Unknown

Epidemiology:

  • Typically presents before age 10
  • Slightly more common in females
  • More common in people of African descent and less common in people of East Asian descent

Presentation:

  • May be asymptomatic
  • Palpable mass
  • Abdominal distension and/or pain
  • Hematuria
  • Fever
  • Hypertension

Prognosis:

  • The 5-year relative survival rate is about 90%
