Mixed Epithelial Stromal Tumor (MEST) CT Findings

  • Unilateral, solid kidney lesions
  • Well-demarcated tumor
  • Complex cystic lesions (Bosniak III or IV) with solid components
  • Contrast enhancement

Etiology:

  • Unknown
  • May be linked to hormonal therapy

Epidemiology:

  • Rare
  • Male to female ratio is 1:10
  • Typically presents during 5th decade of life or perimenopausal age

Presentation:

  • Typically asymptomatic and discovered incidentally
  • Hematuria
  • Abdominal pain
  • Palpable mass
  • Frequent UTIs

Prognosis:

  • MEST tumors are benign
