Kidney CT Appearances
Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma (ccRCC) CT Findings
- Make up to 85% of renal cell carcinomas
- Tumors are usually vascular with an attenuation over 110HU
- RCC commonly will invade the renal vein or IVC
- Metastases are usually vascular (e.g. pancreas, nodes, muscle)
Other Information About Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma
Etiology:
- Smoking
- Obesity
- Hypertension
- May be genetic
- Association with Von Hippel-Lindau
Epidemiology:
- Male to female ratio 2:1
- Most commonly in patients 50-70 years of age
- Can occur at any age
Presentation:
- Hematuria
- Flank pain
- Palpable mass
- Fatigue
- Fever
- Weight loss
Prognosis:
- 5-year survival rate is 50-70% for localized tumors
- 5-year survival rate is about 10% for tumors that have spread
