Horseshoe Kidney CT Findings
- Majority of each kidney lies on side of spine
- Both kidneys involved
- Renal pelvis usually rotated anteriorly
- 90% of cases occur with connection at lower pole
- May be more likely injured in trauma like MVA
Other Information About Horseshoe Kidney
Etiology:
- Unknown
- May be hereditary
- Common with Edwards and Turner syndromes
Epidemiology:
- More common in males
Presentation:
- Asymptomatic
Prognosis:
- Horseshoe kidneys are benign but may lead to increased renal complications
