Extramedullary Hematopoiesis (EMH) CT Findings
- Well-marginated, round or lobulated soft tissue mass(es)
- Smooth surface
- Interspersed fat attenuation
- No calcification
- Can be bilateral
Other Information About Extramedullary Hematopoiesis (EMH)
Etiology:
- Can arise through pluripotential stem cells
- Linked to blood disorders and anemia
Epidemiology:
- Rare
- Typically seen in Mediterranean countries
Presentation:
- Pallor
- Bruising and/or petechia
- Abdominal pain
- Splenomegaly and/or hepatomegaly
- Bone pain
Prognosis:
- Must be monitored to prevent complications
