Paget's Disease CT Findings
- Lytic:
- Osteolysis with resorption
- Osteolysis has sharp, leading edge (“blade of grass” or “candle flame”)
- Mixed:
- Cortical thickening
- Osseous expansion
- Coarsening and thickening of trabeculae
- Sclerotic:
- Osteosclerosis
- Fatigue fractures and bowing deformities
- Usually involves multiple bones
Other Information About Paget's Disease
Etiology:
- Unknown
- Familial history
Epidemiology:
- Typically presents over age 50
- More common in people of northern European heritage
- Slightly more common in males
Presentation:
- Typically asymptomatic
- Bone or joint pain
- Bowing of the long bones
- Bones that fracture easily
Prognosis:
- There is no cure for Paget’s disease but it can be managed
