Hepatosplenic Candidiasis CT Findings
- Lesions that resemble microabscesses
- Hypodense
- Lesions are typically round with central enhancement
- Hypoattenuation
- May have hepatomegaly or splenomegaly
- Kidneys and lungs may also be involved
- Patients are usually immunosuppressed
Other Information About Hepatosplenic Candidiasis
Etiology:
- Patients typically have recovered from or coexisting neutropenia
Epidemiology:
- Rare
- Typically presents in the 5th decade of life but can occur at any age
Presentation:
- Fever
- Abdominal pain or tenderness
- Diarrhea
- Nausea and/or vomiting
- Jaundice
Prognosis:
- Though the true prognosis is unknown, reports estimate the mortality rate to be 30-50%
