Embryonal Sarcoma CT Findings

  • Encapsulated soft tissue mass
  • Solitary
  • Multiseptate
  • Hypodense mass with hyperdense septa
  • Usually large, > 10cm
  • Typically displaces the bowel
  • May have debris
  • Can mimic a necrotic cyst

Other Information About Embryonal Sarcoma

Etiology:

  • Unknown

Epidemiology:

  • Typically presents between ages 6-10
  • Very rare but documented in adults

Presentation:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Palpable mass
  • Fever
  • Nausea and/or vomiting
  • Weight loss

Prognosis:

  • Embryonal sarcomas are malignant
  • The estimated survival rate is around 50-70%
