Liver CT Appearances
Hepatic Adenoma CT Findings
- Well-defined mass that may contain hemorrhage, necrosis, fat and rarely calcification
- Non-contrast CT: hypodense or isodense
- Arterial phase: moderate enhancement
- Portal phase CT: lesions enhance similar to surrounding liver
- Delayed phase CT: lesions enhance similar to surrounding liver
Other Information About Hepatic Adenoma
Etiology:
- Increase in sex hormones (birth control usage, pregnancy, anabolic steroid usage, etc)
Epidemiology:
- 9:1 ratio of females to males affected
- Patients usually aged 20-50
- Very rare
Presentation:
- Typically asymptomatic
- RUQ pain
- Palpable mass
Prognosis:
- With resection, most patients live 10 years or more without recurrence
