Hepatic Adenoma CT Findings

  • Well-defined mass that may contain hemorrhage, necrosis, fat and rarely calcification
  • Non-contrast CT: hypodense or isodense
  • Arterial phase: moderate enhancement
  • Portal phase CT: lesions enhance similar to surrounding liver
  • Delayed phase CT: lesions enhance similar to surrounding liver

Other Information About Hepatic Adenoma

Etiology:

  • Increase in sex hormones (birth control usage, pregnancy, anabolic steroid usage, etc)

Epidemiology:

  • 9:1 ratio of females to males affected
  • Patients usually aged 20-50
  • Very rare

Presentation:

  • Typically asymptomatic
  • RUQ pain
  • Palpable mass

Prognosis:

  • With resection, most patients live 10 years or more without recurrence
