Hepatic Infarction CT Findings

  • Usually wedge shaped, peripheral, and low attenuation
  • Can be rounded or irregularly shaped
  • Can evolve into bike lakes
  • Gas can be seen in both sterile and infected infarcts
  • Vascular clot or occlusion may be present

Etiology:

  • Unknown
  • May be linked to biliary carcinoma or hepatoma

Epidemiology:

  • Rare
  • Since many cases go undiagnosed, the true epidemiology is unknown

Presentation:

  • Asymptomatic
  • Fever
  • Flank pain

Prognosis:

  • Can be fatal
