Hepatic Cholangiocarcinoma CT Findings

  • Periductal-infiltrating mass
  • Mass is often sizeable and nonencapsulated
  • Intraductal growth
  • Peripheral washout appearance
  • May have capsular retraction and bile duct dilation
  • May have daughter nodules
  • Dilated ducts more common than in hepatoma

  • Unknown

Epidemiology:

  • Typically presents around ages 50-70

Presentation:

  • Jaundice
  • Itching
  • Dark urine and/or light-colored stool
  • RUQ pain
  • Fever
  • Weight loss
  • Fatigue

Prognosis:

  • Relative 5-year survival rates for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma:
    • Localized: 23%
    • Regional: 9%
    • Distant: 3%
    • All SEER stages combined: 9%
