Fibrolamellar Hepatoma CT Findings

  • Large, well defined heterogeneous lesions (>7cm)
  • May have lobulated outline or may be ill defined
  • Hypoattenuating but may be hypervascular
  • Roughly half have calcification
  • Often has central stellate scar

Etiology:

  • Unknown

Epidemiology:

  • Very rare
  • Typically found in patients between adolescence and age 40
  • More common in patients with European ancestry
  • Slightly more common in males

Presentation:

  • Generally asymptomatic
  • Abdominal pain
  • Weight loss
  • Malaise

Prognosis:

  • Fibrolamellar hepatoma can be resected in its early stages
  • General prognosis is unknown because incidence is so rare
