Hepatoblastoma CT Findings

  • Well circumscribed mass
  • Slightly hypoattenuating
  • Hypervascular
  • May have a central scar
  • More commonly in the right lobe of the liver
  • Can be solitary or multifocal
  • Calcification may occur but is uncommon
  • Larger tumors may have hemorrhage and/or cystic necrosis

Other Information About Hepatoblastoma

Etiology:

  • Unknown
  • Associated with low birth weight, premature birth, and preeclampsia
  • Alcohol and tobacco use during pregnancy increases risk of hepatoblastoma

Epidemiology:

  • Very rare
  • Typically presents before age 3

Presentation:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Nausea and/or vomiting
  • Palpable mass
  • Weight loss
  • Anorexia
  • Jaundice

Prognosis:

  • The 5-year relative survival rate is about 80-90%
