Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome (ZES) CT Findings
- Thickened rugal folds
- Multiple gastric nodules
- Gastrinoma (usually < 1 cm) is most often located in the gastrinoma triangle
Other Information About Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome (ZES)
Etiology:
- Caused by gastrinomas
- Associated with MEN1
Epidemiology:
- Typically present in the 4th-6th decades of life
Presentation:
- Diarrhea
- Abdominal pain (burning sensation)
- Acid reflux
- Heartburn
- Nausea and/or vomiting
- Weight loss
Prognosis:
- ZES-causing gastrinomas can be benign or malignant
- If malignant and treated, the 5-year survival rate can be over 90%
