Hemoperitoneum CT Findings
- Blood collection in the abdomen, pelvis, or central pouch of Douglas
- Typical attenuation is 30-70 HU but varies greatly depending on a variety of factors
- Highest attenuation hematoma is closest to the site of bleed
Other Information About Hemoperitoneum
Etiology:
- Trauma
- Surgery or biopsy
- Can also be spontaneous
Epidemiology:
- Anyone is susceptible to hemoperitoneum
Presentation:
- Abdominal and/or pelvic pain
- Abdominal distension
- Nausea, dizziness or confusion
- Tachycardia
- Pallor
Prognosis:
- Prognosis depends greatly on the cause of the hemoperitoneum and how quickly it’s treated
