Small Bowel Lipoma CT Findings

  • Round, oval or lobulated tumor arising in the submucosa
  • Smooth and homogeneous
  • Well-circumscribed intraluminal filling defect
  • Thinly encapsulated
  • Shape of the mass changes and creates “squeeze sign”
  • May also change their location
  • Lipid attenuation (-120 to -40 HU)
  • Can lead to an intussusception

Etiology:

  • Unknown

Epidemiology:

  • Rare
  • Usually presents in 6th-7th decades of life

Presentation:

  • Small bowel lipoma is usually asymptomatic
  • Abdominal pain
  • GI hemorrhage

Prognosis:

  • Lipomas are benign
