Small Bowel Lymphoma CT Findings

  • Single or multiple rounded homogeneous masses
  • Involves the submucosa and muscularis layers
  • Infiltrative pattern
  • Mass-like bowel wall thickening
  • Preservation of the lumen
  • Small bowel loops may be displaced
  • Mesentery may be involved

Other Information About Small Bowel Lymphoma

Etiology:

  • Unknown

Epidemiology:

  • Primary SB lymphoma is rare
  • Typically presents in the 6th decade of life

Presentation:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Weight loss
  • Nausea and/or vomiting
  • Hematochezia

Prognosis:

  • Since SB lymphoma is rare, the survival rate is unknown
  • Several studies suggest the overall 5-year relative survival rate after treatment is upwards of 50%
