Duodenitis CT Findings
- Segmental wall thickening of the duodenum
- Lack of mucosal enhancement
- Submucosal hemorrhage
- Periduodenal fat stranding
- Luminal dilation
- Mural stratification
- Pneumatosis
- Gas in the mesenteric or portal vein
Other Information About Duodenitis
Etiology:
- Caused by bacteria
- Associated with small bowel diseases like Celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, etc.
- Can also be caused by overuse of pain medication, overconsumption of alcohol, and smoking
Epidemiology:
- Affects people of all ages
Presentation:
- May be asymptomatic
- Early satiety
- Abdominal distension
- Gas
- Nausea and/or vomiting
- Cramping
Prognosis:
- Duodenitis typically goes away on its own
- Unresolved cases may be treated with medicine
