  • Segmental wall thickening of the duodenum
  • Lack of mucosal enhancement
  • Submucosal hemorrhage
  • Periduodenal fat stranding
  • Luminal dilation
  • Mural stratification
  • Pneumatosis
  • Gas in the mesenteric or portal vein

Other Information About Duodenitis

Etiology:

  • Caused by bacteria
  • Associated with small bowel diseases like Celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, etc.
  • Can also be caused by overuse of pain medication, overconsumption of alcohol, and smoking

Epidemiology:

  • Affects people of all ages

Presentation:

  • May be asymptomatic
  • Early satiety
  • Abdominal distension
  • Gas
  • Nausea and/or vomiting
  • Cramping

Prognosis:

  • Duodenitis typically goes away on its own
  • Unresolved cases may be treated with medicine
