Small Bowel Diverticulitis CT Findings
- Round or oval
- Smooth wall
- No recognizable folds of the SB
- May contain contrast, fluid or air
- Outside expected lumen of small bowel
- Communicate with adjoining small bowel loop
- Most common in jejunum
Other Information About Small Bowel Diverticulitis
Etiology:
- Unknown
Epidemiology:
- Common
- Typically presents after age 40
Presentation:
- Typically asymptomatic
- Symptomatic patients may experience abdominal pain and/or distension
Prognosis:
- Diverticulitis is benign and usually doesn’t need to be treated
- Symptomatic patients may require treatment or surgical intervention
