Crohn's Disease (Active) CT Findings

  • Mucosal hyperenhancement
  • Wall thickening
  • Mural stratification (seeing bowel layers) with prominent vasa recta (comb sign)
  • Mesenteric fat stranding

Etiology:

  • Unknown
  • Familial history

Epidemiology:

  • Typically presents in adolescence through age 35

Presentation:

  • Diarrhea
  • Hematochezia
  • Abdominal pain
  • Fatigue
  • Fever
  • Ulcers in the mouth
  • Anorexia and/or weight loss

Prognosis:

  • There is no current cure for Crohn’s disease but it can be managed and patients can live a full life
