Sclerosing Mesenteritis CT Findings

  • Soft tissue mass in the mesentery
  • Preservation of fat around mesenteric vessels, “fat ring sign”
  • May have calcification in the mass and/or collateral vessels

Etiology:

  • Unknown

Epidemiology:

  • Rare
  • Typically presents after age 40-50

Presentation:

  • Most patients are asymptomatic

Prognosis:

  • SM is benign
  • Can be difficult to distinguish from carcinoid tumor
