Castleman Disease CT Findings

  • Usually classified and unicentric or multicentric
    • Unicentric: a solitary, noninvasive mass
    • Multicentric: a dominant mass with involvement of surrounding structures
  • Hyperdense to isodense lesions common
  • Enlarged, hypervascular appearance of involved lymph nodes

Etiology:

  • Unknown
  • Linked to HIV

Epidemiology:

  • Rare
  • Affects males and females equally
  • Age range for Castleman disease is broad, typically from the 4th-7th decades of life

Presentation:

  • Unicentric Castleman Disease (UCD) is asymptomatic
  • Multicentric Castleman Disease (MCD) may present with fever, night sweats, weight loss, and fatigue

Prognosis:

  • Prognosis after surgical resection is good
