- Diffuse infiltration of a segment of bowel
- Polypoid mass
- Constricting lesion
- Large ulcerating lesion
Other Information About Small Bowel Adenocarcinoma
Etiology:
- Alcohol and/or smoking increase risk
- Diets high in red meat also may increase risk
- Linked to Crohn’s disease, celiac disease, HIV/Aids, Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), Peutz-Jeghers Syndrome, and Lynch Syndrome
Epidemiology:
- Typically presents during 6th -7th decades of life
- Slightly more common in males
- More common in patients of African descent
Presentation:
- Typically asymptomatic
- Abdominal pain
- GI bleed & hematochezia
- SBO
- Nausea and/or vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Weight loss
- Anemia
- Jaundice
Prognosis:
- The 5-year relative survival rates are:
- Localized: 84%
- Regional: 78%
- Distant: 42%
- All SEER staged combined: 69%
