Accessory Spleen CT Findings

  • Well-marginated round masses
  • Between 3mm and 20mm
  • Homogeneous enhancement
  • Can be solitary or multiple
  • Typically in left upper quadrant but can appear anywhere

Other Information About Accessory Spleens

Etiology:

  • Congenital
  • Can occur after splenosis

Epidemiology:

  • Anyone is susceptible to get an accessory spleen

Presentation:

  • Typically asymptomatic
  • Abdominal pain

Prognosis:

  • Accessory spleens are benign
  • Symptomatic patients may have theirs surgically removed
