Gastrinoma CT Findings

  • Found in the “Gastrinoma triangle” or “Passaro’s triangle” (the space between the junction of cystic duct/CBD, 2/3rd part of duodenum, and pancreatic head/neck junction)
  • < 5cm
  • Can be single or multiple
  • May lead to Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome

Etiology:

  • Unknown

Epidemiology:

  • Typically present in the 3rd-6th decades of life
  • Slightly more common in males

Presentation:

  • Typically asymptomatic
  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Indigestion
  • Nausea and/or vomiting
  • Hematochezia and/or hematemesis
  • Weight loss

Prognosis:

  • If the tumor is resected before metastasizing then the 5-year relative survival rate can surpass 90%
  • After metastasis, the survival rate goes down to about 43%
