Gastric Hemorrhage CT Findings
- Intraluminal contrast blush represents active bleeding
- Hyperattenuating clot shows evidence of recent bleeding
- Clots mostly in the fundus
- Contrast extravasion
- May be confused with medication (eg Maalox) in the stomach
Other Information About Gastric Hemorrhage/h2>
Etiology:
- Ulcers, hernias, gastritis, and cancerous growths
- Trauma to the stomach (can be caused by excessive vomiting)
Epidemiology:
- Anyone is susceptible to gastric hemorrhage
Presentation:
- Hematochezia
- Hematemesis
- Black stool
- Vomit with a “coffee ground” appearance
- Dyspnea
- Syncope
- Fatigue
Prognosis:
- Untreated gastric hemorrhage can lead to life-threatening conditions
- Most patients are treated and make a full recovery
