Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma CT Findings
- Hypovascular mass
- Upstream pancreatic duct dilation with abrupt duct cutoff
- Distal pancreatic atrophy
- Vascular encasement common (SMA, celiac, PV, SMV)
Other Information About Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma
Etiology:
- Largely unknown
- Cigarette smoking, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and chronic pancreatitis increase the risk of pancreatic adenocarcinoma
- Familial history
Epidemiology:
- More common in males
- Typically presents in 6th to 8th decades of life
- More common in people of African ancestry
Presentation:
- Symptoms typically present only after the cancer has spread to other organs
- Jaundice
- Abdominal pain
- Loss of appetite
- Weight loss
- Dark urine and/or light colored stool
- Itchy skin
Prognosis:
- The 5-year relative survival rates for pancreatic adenocarcinoma are:
- Localized: 44%
- Regional: 16%
- Distant: 3%
- All SEER stages combined: 13%
