Annular Pancreas CT Findings

  • Band of pancreatic tissue that completely or partially surrounds the duodenum
  • Most common around the descending part of duodenum
  • Varying degrees of obstruction
  • Duodenum may be dilated proximal to stenosis

Etiology:

  • Generally unknown
  • Linked to Down syndrome

Epidemiology:

  • AP is a congenital defect
  • Bimodal: typically diagnosed in newborns and patients in 3rd-6th decades of life

Presentation:

  • Typically asymptomatic
  • In children:
    • Vomiting
    • Bloating
    • Feeding intolerance

Prognosis:

  • Symptomatic patients can be treated with surgery
