Annular Pancreas CT Findings
- Band of pancreatic tissue that completely or partially surrounds the duodenum
- Most common around the descending part of duodenum
- Varying degrees of obstruction
- Duodenum may be dilated proximal to stenosis
Other Information About Annular Pancreas
Etiology:
- Generally unknown
- Linked to Down syndrome
Epidemiology:
- AP is a congenital defect
- Bimodal: typically diagnosed in newborns and patients in 3rd-6th decades of life
Presentation:
- Typically asymptomatic
- In children:
- Vomiting
- Bloating
- Feeding intolerance
Prognosis:
- Symptomatic patients can be treated with surgery
