Pancreas CT Appearances
Intraductal Papillary Mucinous Neoplasm (IPMN) CT Findings
- Dilated main pancreatic duct (main duct IPMN)
- Diffuse or multifocal involvement of pancreatic duct
- Presence of large mural nodule or solid mass
- Obstruction of CBD
- Most IPMNs are benign
- Larger tumors (>3cm) may be malignant with mural nodules
Other Information About Intraductal Papillary Mucinous Neoplasm (IPMN)
Etiology:
- Unknown
- Linked to familial history of IPMN or PDAC
Epidemiology:
- More common in males
- Typically present in the 6th-8th decades of life
Presentation:
- Typically asymptomatic
- Abdominal pain
- Nausea and/or vomiting
- Jaundice
- Weight loss
- Acute pancreatitis
Prognosis:
- IPMNs are pre-malignant
- If resected before malignancy then the 5-year relative survival rate is over 90%
