Insulinoma CT Findings

  • Usually < 2cm
  • Usually solitary
  • Occur either in the head, body, or tail of pancreas
  • Are typically hypervascular

Etiology:

  • Unknown
  • Associated with MEN1

Epidemiology:

  • Rare
  • Most commonly occurs in 6th decade of life

Presentation:

  • Hypoglycemia, particularly in the morning or after prolonged periods without eating
  • Weakness
  • Confusion
  • Excessive sweating
  • Tachycardia

Prognosis:

  • Can be surgically removed
  • Because pancreatic insulinoma is rare, the true prognosis is not known. Studies suggest the 10-year relative survival rate is as high as 87% for localized tumors and 33% for metastatic tumors
