Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP) CT Findings

  • Low-attenuation ascites
  • Soft tissue implants with rim-like calcification
  • Visceral scalloping
  • Omental caking
  • Implants on serosal surfaces and cavities
  • Can affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract and/or the ovaries
  • Usually secondary to appendiceal tumors

Etiology:

  • Unknown

Epidemiology:

  • Very rare
  • Average age of presentation is about 48-53 years

Presentation:

  • Abdominal pain or discomfort
  • Abdominal distension
  • Constipation
  • Hernia
  • Anorexia
  • Nausea

Prognosis:

  • As PMP is so rare, the true prognosis is unknown
