Subcapsular Splenic Hematoma CT Findings
- Low or high attenuation blood between intact spleen capsule and parenchyma
- Elliptical or lenticular in shape
- Active bleeding may be seen
Other Information About Subcapsular Hematoma
Etiology:
- Trauma
- HELLP syndrome
- May be spontaneous
Epidemiology:
- Rare
- Most commonly occurs in pregnant women
Presentation:
- Abdominal pain
- Nausea and/or vomiting
Prognosis:
- Must be promptly diagnosed and treated
- For ruptured hematomas, the mortality rate can be as high as 75%
