Ovarian Carcinoma CT Findings
- Arises from the ovarian surface epithelium
- Papillary projection
- Solid portion of tumor may enhance
- Tumor usually complex in appearance on CT
Other Information About Ovarian Carcinoma
Etiology:
- Unknown
- Increased incidence with familial history
- Obesity and endometriosis both increase risk
Epidemiology:
- More common in females who have never been pregnant
- More common in patients over age 60
Presentation:
- Can spread while being asymptomatic
- Abdominal distension and/or pain
- Loss of appetite
- Changes in bowel and urination habits
- Irregular vaginal bleeding and/or discharge
Prognosis:
- 5-year relative survival rates are:
- Stage I: 93%
- Stages II-III: 74%
- Stage IV: 30%
