Krukenberg Tumor CT Findings
- Ovaries replaced by unilateral bilateral pelvic masses
- Masses may be solid or mixed solid and cystic
- Well-demarcated intratumoral cystic component
- Cyst walls show contrast enhancement
- The surrounding structures should be examined for a mass
Other Information About Krukenberg Tumors
Etiology:
- Arise from adenocarcinoma
- Primary sources include colon cancer, pancreatic cancer and gastric cancer
Epidemiology:
- Typically present after age 40 but have presented in a wide range of ages
- More common in East Asia
Presentation:
- Typically asymptomatic
- Abdominal pain and/or distension
- Dyspareunia
- Abnormal vaginal bleeding
Prognosis:
- Poor
- Patients with Krukenberg tumors usually succumb within 1-2 years
