  • Ovarian vein dilation can be unilateral or bilateral
  • Usually best seen on venous phase imaging

Other Information About Pelvic Congestion Syndrome (PCS)

Etiology:

  • Unknown
  • Most commonly associated with pregnancy, particularly patients who have given birth more than once

Epidemiology:

  • Usually presents between ages 20 and 45
  • PCS is uncommon after menopause

Presentation:

  • Abdominal pain or discomfort, particularly after standing
  • Increased pain during the menstrual cycle
  • Dyspareunia
  • Varicose veins around the upper thighs and pelvis
  • Dysuria, diarrhea and/or constipation

Prognosis:

  • There is no cure for PCS but the symptoms can be managed with treatment
