Endometriosis CT Findings
- Multiple complex lesions
- High-attenuation components within the masses
- Wide range of CT appearances including enhancing lesions in the abdominal wall
- CT is not the preferred method of study for diagnosis
Other Information About Endometriosis
Etiology:
- Unknown
- Familial history increases incidence
Epidemiology:
- More common in females who have never given birth
- More common in females who start menstruation earlier (before age 11) than those who start later (after age 14)
- Most commonly affects females between ages 20 and 40
Presentation:
- Pelvic pain, particularly during menstruation
- Dyspareunia
- Dysuria
- Infertility
- Some cases may be asymptomatic
Prognosis:
- There is no cure for endometriosis but there are management options for the symptoms
- Patients with endometriosis may undergo fertility treatment
