Ovarian Serous Cystadenocarcinoma CT Findings

  • Cystic mass
  • Variable amount of solid tissue
  • Calcified papillary projections are common
  • May or may not be bilateral
  • Carcinomatosis with tumor spread is not uncommon at presentation

Etiology:

  • Unknown
  • Familial history increases risk

Epidemiology:

  • Typically presents during the 6th and 7th decades of life but can occur at any age

Presentation:

  • Early stages are often asymptomatic
  • Abdominal distension
  • Pelvic and/or abdominal pain
  • Loss of appetite
  • Polyuria

Prognosis:

  • The 5-year relative survival rate for early stages is about 80%
  • The prognosis for later stages is about 3-4 years
