Tubo-Ovarian Abscess (TOA) CT Findings
- Uniform abscess with a thick wall in an adnexal location
- Often complex, multilocular mass
- Enhances on CT
- Increased fluid density
- Fallopian tube wall thickness > 5mm
- Septae in the fallopian tube
- Fluid in the cul-de-sac
Other Information About Tubo-Ovarian Abscess
Etiology:
- Typically occurs as a complication of Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)
- May also be caused by other infections
Epidemiology:
- Mostly occurs in females of reproductive age
Presentation:
- Pelvic/abdominal pain
- Chills
- Fever
- Irregular vaginal bleeding and/or discharge
Prognosis:
- TOA can be treated with antibiotics
