Ossifying Fibroma CT Findings

  • Concentric growth
  • Round or oval
  • Most commonly in the mandible
  • Smooth and well-defined margins
  • Can be cystic or mixed density
  • More aggressive lesions may have indistinct mass boundaries

Other Information About Ossifying Fibroma

Etiology:

  • Unknown
  • May be caused by trauma, plaque, and gum irritation

Epidemiology:

  • 5x more common in females
  • Typically occurs in the 2nd-4th decades of life

Presentation:

  • Most are asymptomatic
  • Palpable mass
  • Tooth displacement

Prognosis:

  • Ossifying fibromas are benign
  • They can be surgically removed
  • Recurrence is not uncommon
