Etiology:

  • Atherosclerosis
  • Linked to smoking, alcohol, obesity, unhealthy diets, diabetes and hypertension

Epidemiology:

  • Common
  • Typically presents after age 50

Presentation:

  • Typically asymptomatic
  • Stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA)
  • Aphasia
  • Vision impairment
  • Headache
  • Ataxia
  • Symptoms of CAD usually occur suddenly
Prognosis:

  • Stroke can be fatal
  • Atherosclerosis can be managed with lifestyle changes and medicine
