Hemangioblastoma CT Findings

  • Homogeneous enhancing mass
  • Well demarcated
  • Can be cystic or solid
  • Isodense mural nodule
  • May have serpentine vessels (vascularization)
  • Typically located in the cerebellum

Etiology:

  • Unknown
  • Connected to Von Hippel-Lindau disease (VHL)

Epidemiology:

  • Rare
  • Typically presents between ages 30-65
  • More common in males

Presentation:

  • Headache
  • Nausea and/or vomiting
  • Ataxia
  • Impaired vision
  • Aphasia
  • Symptoms may have sudden onset
Prognosis:

  • Hemangioblastomas are benign but can be resected to eliminate symptoms
